Religious, Moral & Philosophical Studies (RMPS) raise awareness of the relevance of religion, morality and philosophy in today’s world. These courses address the impact and significance of world religions, contemporary moral questions, and religious and philosophical questions. Learners have opportunities to consider both religious views and viewpoints independent of religious belief.
Throughout our time in RMPS we:
- develop describe, explain, analysis and evaluation skills, which are all critical when it comes to sitting exams later.
- explore and develop our knowledge and understanding of religious beliefs and practices and of viewpoints independent of religious belief.
- develop respect and understanding for others.
- give opportunities for learners to explore ethical issues, philosophical questions and diverse worldviews that shape the world around them.
Students are assessed throughout the course and through written end of unit assessments. Additional support is available for anyone that needs it.
At Bridge of Don Academy, all students in S1, S2 and S3 have Core RMPS one period per week.

In S3 pupils will have the opportunity to gain a stand-alone National unit in RMPS. This is assessed in line with the SQA standards for National 4. This unit appears on successful candidates’ exam certificates.
