Pupil Voice Time - Equality and Discrimination
The topics we focus on in our monthly Pupil Voice sessions relate to our school improvement plan and, as part of this, we have recently been looking at the idea of being an ‘Upstander’ in terms of challenging unacceptable behaviours such as bullying, discrimination and racism. Pupils have been learning that we all have a responsibility to stand up against these kinds of behaviours and speak out to stop them. In our most recent session, we discussed discrimination and racism as, unfortunately, we have seen an increase in the use of discriminatory and racist language in school.
At our last Parent Council meeting, our improvement work on bullying, discrimination and racism was discussed. The Parent Council thought it would be helpful for all parents to see what we have been working on with pupils.
Attached is a copy of the presentation Pupil Voice Leaders delivered to their groups with the support of a teacher. In this, you will see what was discussed during the session and the language used. We would be grateful if you could support us in our efforts to eradicate discrimination in school and make all children ‘Upstanders’.
