COURSE REQUIREMENTS
ASSIGNMENT
The National 5 Music Technology Course requires you to create 2 projects which are sent to the SQA for marking in March. This is your assignment. It is best to complete the first project by the October holiday and the second by Christmas. This will allow time in the New Year to make improvements as required. Your 2 projects are worth 70% of your overall mark. However, you must choose two different briefs from the list below:
Sound design and Foley for film (1-2 minutes)
Live-recording of a performance (1-3 minutes)
Multi-track recording a performance (1-3 minutes)
Sound design for a computer game (1-2 minutes)
Radio broadcast (1-2 minutes)
Audiobook (1-2 minutes)
When creating the audio and music for each of these projects, you must record some of the sounds yourself using at least two different microphones.
As you work on your project, you are required to keep a log which details all your planning. Your log will also detail all the decisions that you have made. Some of these will be practical things like where you positioned a microphone or what cables you used. The second part of this is what you have done technically to record and edit your sounds.
WRITTEN / QUESTION PAPER
This is worth 30% of your mark overall. You will sit an exam in April/May when you are sitting all your other main exams. In preparation for this, we will learn music technology terms and vocabulary throughout the year and learn how to identify these features when listening to a piece of music. This will include learning about music genres, microphone types and placement and copyright law.
