Homework Overview:
Homework will be issued via Seesaw (P1) and Google Classroom (P2-P7) from Monday to Monday to allow flexibility for family life. Homework is given out as a weekly assignment to encourage the children plan and manage their time from an early age. We appreciate family life can be busy and circumstances vary so therefore, homework completion can be flexible in terms of volume and frequency, however if you wish feedback from the teacher, it must be uploaded by the Monday. Homework is not usually given out on the first or last week of a term. Homework may be presented in a termly or weekly grid to allow learners choice, or could be more direct in approach.
The content of the homework task set may vary from stage to stage and possibly child to child.
- The task should always be explained by the teacher to ensure it is clearly understood by the pupil.
- Homework should reinforce previously taught knowledge and skills.
- It should be an appropriate level of ability for the child.
- Homework should be able to be completed without specialised resources.
- Reading regularly and at home is the main task we strongly encourage.
When: Choose a time during the week or weekend that works for your child and becomes routine.
Discussion: Discuss the task together and ensure your child is clear on the expectation. Remind them of things that will help such as, neat handwriting or discuss how to do that type of sum so fresh in their head etc. This can avoid getting to the end and it isn't completed to a suitable standard.
Independence: Allow your child to take the lead and develop independence but be around for support/advice.
Checks: Check all homework and give praise. Please initial any work to show staff your child has shared this with you.
Time: Set a time limit based on how your child is that day. If they are tired either leave to another day or chunk the task over a few days. 20- 30 minutes is long enough for any task.
Worries: If your child is taking a long time over homework set or finding it tricky please speak to their teacher as this is useful for us to know and adjustments can be made.
