This has been part of our School Improvement Plan and it has been a priority to support learners with this since Covid 19. Please see below for all the initiatives we have in place at Airyhall.
Our learners are familiar with the Wellbeing Indicators. Three times a year they reflect on the wellbeing webs and identify targets to make improvements with thier health and wellbeing.
We launched our Positive Relationships Policy in 2022 after staff took part in the Compassionate and Connected Communities programme in order for them to be Trauma Informed.
Every classroom and some other places around the school have a Peaceful Place where learners can regulate or gather their thoughts.
We now have school counsellors who help learners with dealing with their emotions. Learners can put their worries into a post box and then they will get an appointment for a Place to Talk session or older learners will work with an ACIS Counsellor.
We are working on Peaceful Places in the Playground and in the garden,
Through the Compassionate and Connected Community Initiative staff have been trained and are now Trauma Informed in their practice.
The Six Nurture Principles underpin our Positive Relationships Policy and our ethos. We have started to use this acronym to remember the 6 principles.
We use Emotion Works cogs to support learners to regulate and understand their emotions. These are displayed in every peaceful place and help to structure co-regulation conversations.
One of our ELSA trained PSAs worked with some learners to create four regulation strategies for our Peaceful Places. Some other learners worked on some updated versions to give learners more variety. We see learners refer to these and use them regularly,

In our School Improvement Plan we said we would like to improve our PE and work with other agencies to do this. We have worked with different agencies and one of our favourites Active Schools.
We worked with our ASG and the Gordonians Hockey Team to share skills and have a friendly tournament.
We worked with Aberdeen Wanderers Rugby Team on Rugby Scotland Week.
We worked with Netball Scotland to provide netball sessions to Upper Stages Classes.
We took part in the Albyn Cross Country Event and even came home with some silverwear.
Our PSAs and staff have taken part in a various training events in PE and specific games.
We wanted to have lots of fun for our sports day in 2022 so decided to have a Jubilee theme. It was a fantastic day!
To go along with the Women's Football World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand we had an Australian theme for our 2023 Sports Day
We have two trained LIAM practitioners who support learners with Let's Introduce Anxiety Management
We have two Emotional Literacy Support Assistants who support learners with emotional literacy.
We have two PSAs who are trained with Seasons for Growth which is a programme that supports learners who have experienced Bereavement or change.
We created a Health and Wellbeing Space in one of our classrooms. This has hosted many Health and Wellbeing Initiatives like, LIAM, ELSA, ACIS Counselling, Seasons for Growth and Reading with Dogs.
We have been working with Ralph who helps some of our learner become more confident in their reading by letting him read to him. There has been a very positive response to this.
We have our own allotment not far from the school where learners grow their own fruit and vegetables and then harvest them in the autumn. This allows learners to regularly experience the outdoors, risk assess and learn about growing.
We maintain our school grounds and community gardens which allows learners to take pride in their school. Learners plant various things around the school grounds.
At Airyhall we have our own allotment where we grow our own fruit and vegetables.
We have a school garden which learners contribute to.
We also have a community garden space which has a our aspiration tree and bulbs planted by learners.
We take part in the It's Your Neighbourhood Campaign where we have received the accreditation of Outstanding for the last 3 years.
Staff took part in the LGBTQ + Education accreditation training - part one.
Learners have engaged in RHSP lessons learning about their Relationships, Sexual Health Education.
Learners celebrated thier uniqueness on 'This is Me' Day where they were encouraged to dress to express who they are. Learners dressed in traditional dress, religious dress, LGBTQ+ rainbow dress, sports attire, club uniforms and showed everyone what was important to them.

Autism Outreach
We have been raising awareness of Neurodiversity and the Umbrella project helped us to do this. Staff received training on Neurodiversity. We also worked with Autism Outreach and Dyslexia Outreach to upskill staff. We engaged with the Circle Resource to make sure classroom environments were suitable to meet the needs of learners.
Throughout the year we have raised awareness of different religious events, languages and neurodiversity. We identified we could continue this theme with raising more awareness of different cultures.
Primary 3J took the lead in sharing information on Autism Spectrum Condition, spreading a strengths based approach and helping learners see that there were lots of people who have ASC.
On 'This is Me' Day Primary 6D and Primary 2B created an assembly sharing their stories about all the different types of families that we might have at Airyhall. They based their stories on 'All Kinds of Families' by Sophy Henn.
We have held informal talks with parents/carers on a variety ot subjects from curriclum to health and wellbeing. These are recorded and shared with parents/carers in the Newsletter.
Our ASG organised a Health and Wellbeing evening for parents/carers to learn more about important health related issues. Suzanne Zeedyk was our key note speaker.
Family Learning held a number of workshops to support families to deal with certain issues.
We offer free period products to families.
We work with many different partners to deliver our Health and Wellbeing Curriculum.
We worked with ACIS to provide one to one counselling sessions for Primary 6 and Primary 7.
We took part in the Speak Out Campaign encouraging learners to speak out against abuse.
Learning Pits are used in classrooms to support Learners to be resilient.
Dyslexia Outreach worked with staff and Learners to support their understanding of Learning Tools to support their learning. Learners now create their own learning profiles to show thier understanding of the learning tools they use to help them.
We took part in the SHINE Survey for Health and Wellbeing and used the data to write our School Improvement Plan.
