In the context of school, the word 'transition' simply refers to the process of starting, or moving between educational settings. Children and Young People in Scotland will experience the following transitions:
Starting Nursery/ Early Learning Centre
Moving from Nursery to Primary School
Moving from Primary School to Secondary School
Leaving Secondary School for:
Further Education (e.g. college or apprenticeships)
Higher Education (e.g. university)
Work
Our learners will also experience smaller transitions every year as they move up a stage each summer.
Pupils from Aberdeen School for the Deaf
School staff from ASfD will liaise with all relevant professionals to support ASfD pupils in a smooth transition to their next school. Prior to leaving ASfD, the learner will be assigned a HSS teacher who will support the learner in their next setting.
Pupils who Access Hearing Support Services
Transitions for HSS learners will be managed primarily by their own nursery/ school. Hearing Support staff will be able to support and advise the learner, their family, and all relevant school staff. HSS staff will also be able to provide Deaf Awareness training for the new educational setting.
