The Hearing Support Service provides support to a number of Deaf secondary learners across the city. Here is a small taste of life in secondary school.
The timetable shown is an example for a S4 pupil. This pupil chose one subject less and this time was used for 1:1 tutorials with a Teacher of the Deaf or Sign Communicator.
During tutorials pupils consolidate course work undertaken in mainstream classes alongside developing their deaf identity using the Deaf Curriculum.
Pupils who are BSL users will also learn and practice BSL signs for subject specific vocabulary.
Throughout the year, pupils will undertake assessments and exams and tutorial time can also be used to assist some revision and discuss assessment arrangements.
