We have such a small amount of time to be together as an ensemble, and every rehearsal is important. Because of this, students are expected to be at all band rehearsals, including lessons, sectionals, and full band rehearsals that meet each week. If a student is in school but does not attend a full band rehearsal, lesson, or SGI, parents will be notified promptly and a card flip / infraction will occur. The student’s grade will be also be negatively impacted if attendance continues to be an issue.
Each time we play our instruments, we are performing. That is why each rehearsal is as important to our musical growth as our public performances. Our concerts are special in that we get the opportunity to share with our family and friends what we have learned in band. Every band student is expected to be at every concert. The only exceptions would be in the case of a family emergency or if you are really ill. If this is the case, the student will be given an assignment to make up the points missed at the concert. This will be due by the end of that quarter.
Dates – Jan. 8 and May 28 (6:30-7:30, North High School Auditorium)
Dress – Artist Black: all black for all players
Etiquette –
Electronic devices must be either turned off or on silent.
All audience members may not leave the forum except in between pieces.
Applause is great and appreciated. Whooping or screaming is not.
Remember that concerts are performances. Respect the performers on stage.

Maintenance – the Appleton Area School District will cover all regular repairs and maintenance. Students are responsible for any issues that may result due to neglect or misuse.
Make sure you buy or rent your instrument from a reputable music store. These stores have repair shops to service your instrument and will carry quality instruments for all levels and prices.
Remember, you get what you pay for. Your instrument is an investment. You don’t need to have the most expensive instrument, but make sure it is a quality instrument and that you maintain it and keep it in good condition.
As always, please see Mrs. Brown if you have any questions about buying or renting an instrument.
