No! Auditions are required for cast members and the pit orchestra; however, there are also non-auditioned opportunities for students interested in crew, costuming, hair and makeup, publicity, stage management, and more.
Students are also welcome to just join Drama Club without participating in the production. All students are welcome at our monthly Drama Club meetings!
Absolutely. Every year we welcome students with all levels of experience, including students trying theatre for the very first time.
We consider theatre to be a team sport, and every role contributes to the success of the production. We encourage students to embrace the role/assignment they are given and focus on growing as performers and teammates.
Not every student is called to every rehearsal or work session. A detailed schedule will be provided, and students are only expected to attend at the times when their department is rehearsing or working. Additional scheduling breakdowns may be issued for cast students, as not all cast members are needed at all rehearsals.
Known scheduling conflicts (like other extracurriculars or work) should be communicated before sign-up whenever possible. We try to be as accomodating as possible so that students can participate in Drama Club and other activities, but certain dates, like Tech Day, Tech Week and performances, are considered mandatory.
Tech Day is our "all hands on deck" work day. Cast, crew, and pit work together to prepare for Tech Week and Opening Night.
Tech Week is the final week before opening night when the cast, crew and pit all work together to make the show performance-ready. Rehearsals this week can be longer, and attendance is especially important.
We primarily communicate through sportsYou and email. Students are expected to monitor communications regularly and share important information with their families. We will sometimes send home flyers with information, but typically we will also email a digital copy of that information.
Yes! Parent volunteers help with concessions, set construction, and many other areas throughout the season. Join us at the Family Meeting on September 24th for more information.
Review schedules together, help students communicate conflicts promptly, support attendance expectations, and encourage them to stay organized and prepared. Working on a theatrical production is a big time commitment and requires outside effort from students as well as regular attendance during rehearsals/work sessions.
As a co-curricular activity, we do not charge a participation fee; however, each family is asked to contribute to the Booster Club fund - all of which goes right back to the students in the form of dress rehearsal meals, snacks and supplies, and a show shirt.
Typically, no. Most costume pieces are provided from our stock or rented/purchased for each student. However, students are asked to supply basic items such as shoes, socks, or undershirts, as well as some hair and makeup supplies.
Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation after rehearsals and performances.
Students indicate on their audition forms whether they are willing to accept a role if selected. We encourage flexibility, as educational theatre often requires casting outside of traditional expectations.
Yes! Auditions are as much about potential and willingness to learn as they are about experience.
Enthusiasm, curiosity, effort, reliability, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
Auditioning can feel competitive, but the cast, crew, and pit make up key parts of a team working towards a common goal. We value collaboration over competition.
Drama Club is a co-curricular activity which presents one theatrical production each semester. Students take on significant responsibility and leadership, learn by doing, and help create every aspect of a production.
