How is the History of our school connected to the history of the neighborhood and of the City?

Local Community: A Hidden History

The 1st-grade team at A2 STEAM, Ms. Lafferty, Ms. Pierce, and Ms. Semrau, are proud to present their prolific history project examining the hidden history of our community. This project has been supported by the combined efforts of middle school social studies, ELA, and the African American studies course.

1st-grade students launched their project with a tour of the history exhibit at the downtown branch of the Ann Arbor District Library. They continued with a panel discussion from community members who helped build A2 STEAM, or attended it when it was Northside Elementary. Students went on the walking tour of the neighborhood that was designed by 8th-grade students last year through an interdisciplinary PBL unit led by Ms. Bednar, Mr. Smead, Ms. Davis, and Mr. Rittinger.

Here you can find the collaborative public products created by our students. The information on each page of this site mirrors the historical markers set for display at the Ann Arbor District Library. Additionally, podcasts have been created for each era of our school. Please enjoy interacting with the artifacts on this website.
