Make Sphero into a paint brush for a fun game of pictionary. Can you code Sphero to draw a shape so perfect that everyone would instantly recognize it?
Two or more players
Sphero Bolt robot
Chromebook or iPad with Sphero EDU installed
index cards
bulletin board paper
Marker
Building materials such as painters tape, legos, cardboard, etc.
Using the materials provided, design a way that Sphero can securely hold a marker.
Create your contraption, and attach it to your Sphero.
Tape your bulletin board paper down on the floor.
Set Sphero on the paper.
Divide the index cards between the two players.
Each student should draw a shape on each card. (See below for suggestions for simple and complex shapes - or make up your own!)
Mix the two piles of index cards and place them face down on a table.
The student who will draw first chooses the top card. Without showing it to your opponent, program Sphero to draw the shape.
Open the Sphero EDU app and select programs from the bottom of the page. Do NOT sign into the app.
Hit the Plus sign in the bottom right hand corner, name your program and select Blocks or Text as the type of program you will be creating.
Run your program. Were others able to guess the shape on your card?
Extension: Same activity but without having Sphero actually draw anything on paper. Sphero does the outline of the shape, your opponent must try to guess what Sphero drew.
Simple shape suggestions:
