Using the materials provided, design a mini-golf hole for Sphero to navigate. Can he get a hole in one?
Sphero RVR or Bolt robot
Chromebook or iPad with Sphero EDU installed
graph paper
ruler/meter stick
building materials such as cardboard, blocks, boxes, etc
surface materials such as aluminum foil, wax paper, sandpaper, felt or other textured materials
painters tape or masking tape
Design a miniature golf course hole for Sphero to navigate. Consider:
How different surfaces will affect Sphero’s movement
How the angles of a course affect Sphero’s movement
How courses are designed to be challenging
Your hole must include:
3 different types of surfaces (aluminum foil, wax paper, sandpaper, felt, etc.)
An acute angle and an obtuse angle
At least one hazard (water feature, sand trap, house etc)
a clear starting point (the Tee)
hole at the end of the course
Map out your design on graph paper. Be sure to label the different surfaces and any other special features.
Build your course using the materials provided.
Open the Sphero EDU app and select programs from the bottom of the page. Do NOT sign into the app.
Hit the Plus sign in the bottom right hand corner, name your program and select Draw or Blocks as the type of program you will be creating.
Program Sphero to navigate the course.
HINT:Be sure to take into account how Sphero will react to the different surfaces and obstacles.
RULE: Sphero cannot cross over a hazard. He MUST navigate around!
8. Reflect on your learning using one of the reflection options.
Extension: Golf Tournament- compete against another golfer to finish the golf course in the fewest moves.
