Conference Dates: JULY 15–18, 2019 OR AUGUST 5-8, 2019
Conference Location: Glen Burnie High School
Timing: The conference will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and conclude at 3:00 PM each day.
Attendance: Attendance for the duration of all four days of the conference is required to receive credit for the experience. If you believe you have scheduling conflicts during session 1, we encourage you to sign up for session 2 as we have seats available.
Transportation: We provide bus transportation to and from the conference location from the STEM High Schools. Please visit the "Transportation" section of the website for departure and return times. Parents and guardians are welcome to transport their student(s) to and from the conference location if it is more convenient.
What should my student wear?: Your student may wear comfortable, school appropriate clothing on day 1 of the conference.
What about lunch?: Your student should bring a packed, bagged lunch to the conference. We cannot guarantee facilities to store perishable food items.
Are students allowed to leave campus for lunch?: No. Students may not leave the campus at any time unless escorted by a faculty member or administrator of the Summer Summit. Students who leave the Summer Summit Conference Center without an authorized adult will be subject to AACPS Code of Student Conduct consequences.

Students entering 10th grade next school year in the STEM and STEM-BMAH High School Magnet Program have been given the unique opportunity of participating in the 3rd Annual STEM Summer Summit. This conference has been designed to introduce rising sophomores to the world of Design Thinking and its numerous applications in various fields in industry, education, and life. The skills and lessons that students learn at this conference are additional tools which they have in their toolboxes that may be accessed to solve problems and create opportunities in the real world. In addition, this conference introduces students to the world of professional conferencing and serves as an introduction to developing their networking skills.
There are two conference sessions which students may pick from. Each conference is built for a total capacity of 150 students.
Academic Program Requirement: The Office of STEM requires incoming 10th graders to enroll in one of the two conference sessions.
Timing: The conference runs from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM each of the four days
Attendance: In order for students to receive credit for their participation in their summer program, they are required to attend all four days of the conference. Early dismissals and late arrivals are not permitted.
Grading: Participation in STEM Summer Programs is awarded on a Pass/Fail basis. If students attend the program and meet all instructor expectations, they will receive credit for participating in the course.
Strands: Students are randomly distributed among five different strand groups - each group is focused on "building a better" component of the selected location taking into account public feedback and business development.
Build a Better strands offer a variety of topics for students to explore . This year's topics include:
