Most medications can be given outside of school hours however, at times it is necessary to administer certain medications at school The following requirements must be met in order for the nurse to administer medication at school. This applies to daily meds, short-term meds, “only if needed” meds, and emergency meds such as EpiPens.
All medication must be administered through the health clinic. Students may not self administer medication while at school
• Please complete and sign a Medication Permission Form and bring it along with the medication itself.

• Medication must be supplied in the most current prescription bottle. Ask the pharmacy for a second bottle for use at home. The bottle must be clearly labeled with the appropriate information on it. Epipens must also be provided in the most current box from the pharmacy with the prescription clearly labeled on it.
•No more than a one month supply of any drug may be kept at school. Narcotic pain medications are not administered or stored at school.
•Controlled substances will be accounted for and documented on a log. It is parental responsibility to provide safe transport of these drugs to and from school. Please contact the nurse if you need to make arrangements.
•If the dose or frequency of administration is adjusted the parent is responsible for notifying the nurse and providing the new prescription from the physician or dentist.
•All medication in the School Health Clinic must be taken home by the last day of school or it will be discarded.
•If a parent wishes their child to carry and administer his/her own asthma inhaler or Epipen at school, please contact the nurse to make these arrangements.
For overnight field trips please follow the following procedure:
Medication must be sent in the original container from the pharmacy.
Send only enough medication for the trip.
Write a signed note stating how and when you want the medication to be administered by the nurse/chaperone. Place note and med container in a ziploc bag.
Please bring all student medication to the nurse a day or two prior to the trip. Makes for a smoother departure in the am.
Students may carry their own asthma inhaler, nasal inhaler and Epipen. All school rules apply.
