LESSON 1
1. Hand out photocopies of the first sheet.
2. Ask someone to read introduction. Explain what the activity these two weeks will be.
3. Ben and teacher act out dialogue between Penelope Clearwater and Detective Mason.
4. Discuss vocabulary in dialogue and a few general "crime"-related words: Suspect, Alibi, Etc...
5. Look at the suspects. Imagine what jobs they might have.
6. Practise speaking the dialogue in pairs.
7. Get students to highlight "WH" question words. Revise their meaning.
8. As a class, come up with a series of questions to ask each of the suspects.
9. Ask students to copy table to put answers to the questions in, ready for next week...
LESSON 2
1. Students divide into 8 pairs/groups. Each is given a card with information about a suspect on it.
2. Students must then fill in their table about their person.
3. Students must write full answers to each of the six questions.
4. In half class, pairs join up into fours and ask each other the questions, filling in the answers in the table. In whole class, each group splits into two pairs. On pair stays at the table and the other pair swaps with members of another team. They ask each other the six questions and fill their answers in the table.
5. Come back together. Discuss who hasn't got a good alibi.
6. Reveal the picture of the crime scene. What do they notice? Did someone break in, or did they break out? Who, then, must have stole the vase and why?
