For the 2016-2017 school year the Moretown School along with other WWSU school will use the Project Lead the Way program as a guide to meet our curricular needs around some of the Next Generation Science Standards. More information about this program can be found here:
Program leaders for the Moretown School are: Duane Pierson, Emily Wood and Terry Hopper. All three participated in a 2016 summer professional development course that prepared them to assist with the integration of the program into all grade levels (k - 6). 2015- 2016 school year
For the 2015-2016 school year, the Moretown School will offer a STE@M program for students in our upper unit. This 12 week, collaboratively-taught program introduces foundational engineering, design and communication concepts and tools. Our curriculum is informed with local and national STEM curriculum, and aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core learning outcomes.
The Moretown STE@M program is partnering with various community organizations, such as the Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP), to involve our fourth, fifth and sixth graders with creating, tinkering, and problem-solving opportunities.

- STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. We focus on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in the real world and in how students learn most effectively. At The Moretown School, our STE@M program explores Science, Technology and Engineering at (@) Moretown by emphasizing the importance of a place-based curriculum to enhance engaging and authentic learning opportunities for our students. Our 1:1 Chromebook and netbook program enhances our focus on technology and deepens student engagement. We utilize math within our curriculum as a support, but not as a stand-alone focus. (Our Supervisory Union utilizes the math program of Investigations and Connected Math with our 4-6 grade students)
- MAKER (space): Makerspaces, sometimes also referred to as Hackerspaces, and “Do It Yourself” work spaces, are places where people gather to create, invent, and learn. They can include 3D printers, software, electronics, craft and hardware supplies and tools, and more. At The Moretown School, we are in the second year of utilizing a makerspace for our students. We are awaiting some work tables that were delayed this past summer to finish our space this school year. We would like to thank the anonymous donor who funds made this space possible.
