Dear Student,
Welcome to second grade! I am excited to be your teacher this year, and I can’t wait to meet you on Tuesday, August 26th. I had a fabulous summer and hope you did too. We are going to have a fun year full of many learning adventures. This year, you will become a reader, author, scientist, historian, mathematician, and engineer! During all of this learning, it is important that our classroom be a place where everyone cooperates and supports each other. We will be spending a lot of time together learning and exploring, so we must treat each other with respect and kindness.
I am excited to learn all about you, so your first assignment this year is to bring in three objects from home that will tell us something about you. These small items should fit in a bag in your backpack (a paper lunch bag is a great size, but any bag will do). Each student will get a chance to share these objects during the first few days of school so that we can get to know each other right away. I will be sharing three things as well. Items you may want to bring are pictures of your family, something that you collect, a postcard from a favorite vacation spot, something that will show us one of your hobbies, sports, or interests, or anything else that will tell us about you and your family.
Please tell your parents/guardians that you will need to pack a NUT-FREE snack for each morning. Also, you can get a FREE breakfast and/or lunch here at school, or bring a packed lunch from home. If you would like to purchase milk only, there is a 75-cent charge. Also, let them know that it would be helpful to have a water bottle that you can sip on throughout the day.
If your family has any questions or concerns, they are welcome to email me at ericka_humphrey@wrsd.net or call the school at (508) 886-2901. I cannot wait to meet you and start our fantastic year together! See you Tuesday!
Your Second Grade Teacher,
Mrs. Humphrey
*** We have PE with Mr. Barbale on our first day of school, so please wear or bring sneakers.
P.S. - Please ensure I am aware of your dismissal plans for the end of the school day. Have your adult send me a note or email with your plans. (Safe Place, Parent Pick Up, Walker, Bus, etc.)
ALL SNACKS FOR THE CLASSROOM MUST BE NUT-FREE!
Message from administration:
Dear Parents/ Guardians:
This letter is to inform you that there are multiple students at Naquag with life-threatening food allergies. Strict avoidance of peanut/nut products is the only way to prevent a life threatening allergic reaction. We are asking for your assistance in providing the student with a safe learning environment. Please do not send any nuts or foods containing nuts for your child's snack. All classrooms will be nut-free.
If exposed to peanuts/nuts, students with allergies may develop a life-threatening allergic reaction which requires emergency medical treatment. To reduce the risk of exposure for the child, all classrooms will be peanut/nut-free. Please do not send any peanut or nut containing products for your child to eat during snack in the classroom. Any exposure to peanuts or nuts through contact or ingestion can cause a severe reaction. If your child has eaten peanut or nut products prior to coming to school, please be sure your child's hands have been thoroughly washed before coming to school.
Since lunch is eaten in the cafeteria, your child may bring peanut butter, peanut or nut products for lunch. In the cafeteria, the children are closely monitored and those with allergies will eat in designated nut-free areas. This plan will help to maintain safety in the classroom while allowing non-allergic classmates to enjoy peanut/nut products in a controlled environment. Following lunch, students will wash their hands prior to returning to the class and the tables will be cleaned.
We appreciate your support of these procedures. If you have any questions please contact the school nurse at the number below.
Thank you,
Michele Salvadore BSN, RN
