Welcome Team 2H
Families and Students!
Below is a letter I am mailing out to the students on August 19th
and a letter from Nurse Michele regarding the classroom no-nut rule.
I can't wait to meet my students and new families for the 2026-2027 school year!
School Supplies:
Students are only asked to bring backpacks, lunch boxes, and water
bottles to school this year. The rest of the needed supplies (folders, pencil boxes, crayons, scissors, dry-
erase markers, etc.) are in our classroom ready to be dispersed to the kiddos!!!

Dear Student,
Welcome to second grade! I am excited to be your teacher this year, and I can’t wait to meet you on Wednesday, August 26th. I had a fabulous summer and hope you did too. We are going to have a fun year full of many learning adventures. This year, you will become a reader, author, scientist, historian, mathematician, and engineer! During all of this learning, our classroom must be a place where everyone cooperates and supports each other. We will be spending a lot of time together learning and exploring, so we must treat each other with respect and kindness.
I am excited to learn all about you, so your first assignment this year is to bring in three objects from home that will tell us something about you. These small items should fit in a bag in your backpack (a paper lunch bag is a great size, but any bag will do). Each student will get a chance to share these objects during the first few days of school so that we can get to know each other right away. I will be sharing three things as well. Items you may want to bring include pictures of your family, something you collect, a postcard from a favorite vacation spot, something that shows one of your hobbies, sports, or interests, or anything else that tells us about you and your family.
Please tell your parents/guardians that you will need to pack a NUT-FREE snack for each afternoon. Also, you can get a FREE breakfast and/or lunch here at school, or bring a packed lunch from home. If you would like to purchase milk only, there is a 75-cent charge. Also, let them know it would be helpful to have a water bottle to sip throughout the day.
If your family has any questions or concerns, they are welcome to email me at ericka_humphrey@wrsd.net or call the school at (508) 886-2901. I cannot wait to meet you and start our fantastic year together! See you Wednesday!!
Your Second Grade Teacher,
Mrs. Humphrey
*** P.S. - Please ensure I am aware of your dismissal plans for the end of the school day. Have your adult send me a note or email with your plans. (Safe Place, Parent Pick Up, Walker, Bus, etc.)
HUMPHREY SPECIALS ROTATION:
We shifted mid-year of last school year to a 4-day rotation for our specials. This pattern will remain in effect this school year. If we have a day off (for a holiday, snow day, etc.), we do NOT count that as a day, and the next day when we are back together, we just continue with the next rotation day.
Special for our class will be daily from 9:20-10:05 AM.
DAY 1: ART (Wednesday 8/26)
DAY 2: MUSIC (Thursday 8/27)
DAY 3: PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE) (Friday, 8/28, wear sneakers!)
DAY 4: STEAM (Monday 8/31)
*Tuesday, 9/1/26, is a no-school day for students!
DAY 1: ART will be the following day (Wednesday 9/2)
DAY 2: MUSIC (Thursday 9/3)
DAY 3: PE (Friday 9/4)
*Monday, 9/7/26, is Labor Day; no school
DAY 4: STEAM (Tuesday, 9/8)
And then these days 1, 2, 3, 4 will just continue on and on for the entire year. The kids should just remember that the next school day after music days, they will need sneakers for PE class. In my experience, the kids get used to this rotation quickly. Last year my students knew this routine better than I did myself!!! 🙂
ALL SNACKS FOR THE CLASSROOM MUST BE NUT-FREE!
Message from administration:
Dear Parents/ Guardians:
This letter is to inform you that there are multiple students at Naquag with life-threatening food allergies. Strict avoidance of peanut/nut products is the only way to prevent a life-threatening allergic reaction. We are asking for your assistance in providing the student with a safe learning environment. Please do not send any nuts or foods containing nuts for your child's snack. All classrooms will be nut-free.
If exposed to peanuts/nuts, students with allergies may develop a life-threatening allergic reaction which requires emergency medical treatment. To reduce the risk of exposure for the child, all classrooms will be peanut/nut-free. Please do not send any peanut or nut containing products for your child to eat during snack in the classroom. Any exposure to peanuts or nuts through contact or ingestion can cause a severe reaction. If your child has eaten peanut or nut products prior to coming to school, please be sure your child's hands have been thoroughly washed before coming to school.
Since lunch is eaten in the cafeteria, your child may bring peanut butter, peanut or nut products for lunch. In the cafeteria, the children are closely monitored, and those with allergies will eat in designated nut-free areas. This plan will help to maintain safety in the classroom while allowing non-allergic classmates to enjoy peanut/nut products in a controlled environment. Following lunch, students will wash their hands prior to returning to the class, and the tables will be cleaned.
We appreciate your support of these procedures. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse at the number below.
Thank you,
Michele Salvadore BSN, RN
