So much to see and do

Education Programs

Visit Connecticut's oldest English settlement and fall under the spell of two charming old New England homes, evocative exhibition galleries, and the fascinating historical photographs, documents, and genealogical materials in our research library. See Native American artifacts, rare 17th century chests, costumes, quilts, cigar-maker's molds, maps, mousetraps, and more in our galleries. Sniff some historic herbs in our garden, and admire the ancient quince tree in our picturesque courtyard. After browsing in our library, visit our museum shop with its unique selection of toys and games, artistic Windsor notecards and stoneware, maps, books and more. Step into the 1758 John and Sarah Strong House and discover what life was like for Windsor men, women and children of the 18th and 19th centuries. Peek into a tiny corner room to see the town's first post office. Just down the hall, discover the small general store where a sea captain's wife sold imported fabrics

See history come alive

And now, families visiting our Hands-On-History Learning Center can try on colonial costumes, "fire up" the coal stove, "cook" a meal in the open hearth, "milk" the cow, and tie sailors' knots. Students can also visit the Stony Hill School, and sit in early 20th century desks, learn from old school books and write their lessons on slates with chalk. The cost is only $1.00 per student for tours. Or, let us visit you! Classroom programs are available for a variety of ages for only $1.00 per student plus mileage. Programs include 'Encounter! Native Americans Meet the English' (grades 2-6), 'Colonial Life in the Windsor Area' (grades K-6), and 'Revolution in America' (grades 4-6). Students learn from authentic maps, documents, artifacts, clothing and other materials. Schedule a tour or classroom program by calling (860) 688-3813.
