Speech Language Pathologists Role at Central School
* A school-based Speech Language Pathologist's (SLP) role is to work with students with communication related disorders in order to maximize communication skills and to support learning within the educational environment. Our main goal is to help these students to be successful and active participants across all school and social settings.
* School-based SLP's assess, diagnose, and treat disorders related to speech, language, voice, and/or fluency.
* In a school-based setting, a communication impairment is considered a disability when it exerts an adverse effect on the students educational performance.
* Students receive speech and language intervention aimed at achieving functional communication outcomes in a variety of school settings including the general education classroom and/or the therapy office.
* Dismissal occurs when the disability no longer has an adverse effect on the student's educational performance and/or the disability no longer exists.
