The COA has contracted with Northern Berkshire Transport to offer free transportation for Williamstown elders to the Bennington and Pownal campus of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. The effort is the result of community feedback indicating that numerous individuals have transferred their primary care to SVMC following the collapse of Northern Berkshire Health care and the hospital a few years ago. This program will allow elders with limited transportation to access primary care on a regular basis. This effort is a pilot opportunity utilizing funds from Massachusetts Elder Affairs and will be operable until at least 30 June 2019. The future of the program after that date is dependent entirely upon other funding sources.
