Hello Chief Johnson, Jason, and Officer Ziemba,
Happy to relay that today, S2579, Williamstown’s Civil Service exemption home rule was enacted by the House and Senate. It is now before the Governor for his consideration and signature. The Governor has 10 days to act on the bill. We’ll be reaching out to his office to flag this for them with the hope that it can be signed as soon as possible.
Thank you again for working with us on this and please keep in touch if we can be of any additional assistance.
Sincerely,
Christian

All,
House has sent to third Reading which is part of process before it goes back to Senate. Bottom line is that it should be on Gov’s desk in week to ten days-I stress should be! In any event it looks like mid September it will be official.
Best,

SENATE SESSION – MONDAY, AUG. 27, 2018
STATE HOUSE NEWS SERVICE
The Massachusetts Senate met for about 15 minutes on Monday morning to advance a series of bills important to specific municipalities. The Senate advanced a bill to exempt the Williamstown Police Department from the civil service law, another bill providing for recall elections in the town of Erving and a bill related to setting a date for the annual town meeting in North Reading. The Senate also dealt with sick leave bank legislation and agreed to move House petitions, including a bill aimed at regulating 3D-printed guns, to committees. The Senate returns for another informal session on Thursday morning.
