Walden Street - restore two way

Post date: Jun 08, 2016 8:18:23 PM

As discussed in the fall, with the advent of construction in the vicinity of Walden Street with the College's projects for the science center expansion and bookstore, in the interest of overall safety, I am recommending that Walden Street be returned to 2 way traffic as soon as possible following the vote of the Board of Selectmen and revision of signage as needed. Temporary construction vehicle signage has already gone up around the area and Stetson Court has been extended by the Health Center and across Hoxsey Street/The Knolls to connect.

The College is meeting with the Planning Board tomorrow to discuss the bookstore. As part of that presentation, they will be reviewing plans to add temporary parking on the front yard of Doughty House for daytime commercial & visitor use. Part of the informal understanding I had with them in allowing contractor parking at 59 Water Street (our property) was provision for additional temporary parking somewhere on their property to offset some of the loss of parallel spaces on Walden Street. The map attached below shows 18 additional spaces in a temporary lot to be constructed this summer.

Motion to modify Section 130-50 Schedule I - One Way Streets to remove Walden Street and Section 130-56 Schedule VII: Parking Prohibited At All Times to restrict parking on the North side of Walden Street (South side already prohibited) and Section 130-57 Schedule VII: Time Limit Parking to remove North side of Walden Street.
