Over the past few months, the eastern end of Walden Street has been intermittently closed between Spring Street and the "back entrance" of the parking lot. The College has been making every effort to have the road open as much as possible as the Bookstore project continues. Nevertheless, there is a certain amount of confusion and potential unsafe situation with the need to alternate between opening and closing. Given that the detour is effective (through the parking lot) and arguably puts eastbound traffic out on Spring Street at a safer location at the parking lot exit, I am recommending that we close the end of Walden Street until construction activity at the corner of Spring and Walden ceases.
This recommendation comes as a result from a conversation with a resident that I then followed with our staff and College. It is not Williams request, but they have indicated they would welcome this for convenience and safety.
