We offer a math enrichment program to students in grades four through sixth. This program. runs from October through February.
The math enrichment program will focus on many of the same problem solving strategies that students will be learning in their classrooms, however, the math enrichment problems will be more complex. That said, ALL students—not just those participating in math enrichment—will receive frequent and ongoing opportunities to engage in higher level thinking and problem solving.
Students who participate in the math enrichment program will participate in four timed Perennial Math Online Competitions . These contests can be challenging, and students may not score as high as they would like. However, typically students' scores improve over time as they become more proficient with using different problem solving strategies.
Students will receive weekly enrichment assignments through Google Classroom that will help prepare them for the contests. Assignments will be shared on Fridays and will be due the following Friday. These assignments should take about one hour per week to complete. Students will be expected to apply problem-solving strategies that they learn in their regular math class to solve these more complex problems. National Honor Society high school students will correct weekly assignments, provide specific feedback, and answer any questions students have. All communication with students will take place through Google Classroom.
