HOMEWORK:
Second graders will have a small amount of nightly homework. Second graders need to read for twenty minutes each night. Students will also be expected to work on DreamBox for 30 minutes at least two times per week. Specific information about DreamBox can be found in another section of this website. Occasionally , there will be some curriculum related projects for your child to do at home. Please be sure to read over the assignments with your child. We will let you know when those projects are occurring.
There may be some assignments where you will need to work with your child in order to complete the given task. I suggest you select one thing to compliment your child on and one thing he or she could change or correct.
Children often need a small break after their day at school. Designing a plan that works for your family schedule will be valuable. Consistency in setting expectations to develop independent and comfortable homework habits is what we hope to achieve. Establishing a specific place in your home where your child will complete the assignments and providing some materials he or she will have independent access to can both be helpful. Children should work in an area where there are no distractions. Always have your child recheck assignments to be sure they are accurate and complete.
Supplies: Students will need a quiet work spot, a pencil and crayons. I will send home math game playing cards your child can use to practice math games learned in class. Dot dice, colored pencils and scissors are always handy.
