Classroom Procedures
· Come in, sit down, and get quiet.
· Get out your previous day’s assignment (if any) to be checked.
· Start working on bell ringer or sketchbook activity. Students will have a 5- to10-minute exercise at the beginning of the period.
· Be ready to start class as soon as I have checked roll and handed back papers.
· After I have checked roll and given back any graded work, I will go over any questions that students have from homework or graded work. We will then take new notes or begin on new assignments. If time remains students will work on assignments in class. You will have an assignment of some type every day, and notes will be taken most days. Please make sure you are completing these.
· Sketchbook assignments will be graded WEEKLY – you MUST keep up with your work!
· During instruction, students are expected to pay attention, take notes, ask and answer questions. Students need to raise their hand to answer or ask questions and wait for me to call on them. Once notes are finished, students are expected to continue working on assignments until the bell or I have told them it is okay to put up their work. When a student completes my assignment, they may work on other assignments. If a student is working on another subject without finishing my work first, I will take the work from them until the end of the period.
· Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom during instruction, during the first 10 minutes of class, or the final 10 minutes of class unless they are called by the office. Students need to try to use the restroom between classes, or when I allow the class to go (such as after lunch). If a student needs to leave the classroom during instruction, they will have one free pass a week. If there is a need for your child to be allowed to leave the classroom more often, please leave a doctor’s note in the office.
· Art History is a huge part of art; therefore, we will be covering the history of art from Prehistoric until present times. Students are expected to take notes, and written tests will be given on those notes. I will add projects and assignments to some lessons as I can – this is art, so we will create art.
· The school year in Art will be divided between Art History (1st and 3rd Nine Weeks) and Studio Stations (2nd and 4th Nine Weeks). During the Studio Stations, students will be divided into groups and allowed to work and rotate through four stations: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and 3-D (wire sculpture, air-dry clay, found object sculpture, etc). Student stations are subject to student behavior! If rules are not followed, or the class becomes unruly, stations will be closed until such time the students can behave appropriately.
For Studio Station Rules and Procedures, see "Studio Policy."
