Date: Thursday, February 13th, 2020

1) In class, we took up the homework from yesterday.

2) We watched a video – “Pregnancy 101” – which introduces the stages of prenatal development. https://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/science/101-videos/00000167-a4af-deca-ab7f-ecafb47d0000

We answered the following questions while watching:

· What is a zygote?

· What is a placenta?

· What is an umbilical cord?

3) We discussed the 3 stages of prenatal development (the PPT has been posted on the website).

4) We discussed how the period right after birth is portrayed in the media, and common misconceptions that people have about newborns.

5) As a class, we read the textbook, p. 100-102, outlining what happens after the baby is born.

6) Students individually read p. 105-111 in the textbook, while taking notes using the worksheet provided (Physical Qualities and Changes in Infants).

7) As a class, we took up the quiz about the theoretical perspectives of development that you wrote earlier this week.

Homework:

- study for the UNIT 1 TEST on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH.

- Finish reading p. 105-111 in the textbook, and fill out the worksheet (the chart).

Date: Wednesday, February 12th, 2020

1) In class, we talked about the Unit 1 Test on Tuesday, February 18th.We read through the handout regarding the success criteria, test format, and topics covered.

2) We started Unit 2: The Start of Life & Infancy (PPT). We learned about prenatal development, and the various factors that can impact the development of the baby, as well as the health of the mother.

3) We read p. 72-76 in the textbook and answered questions #1-3 on p. 82. This was taken up in class.

Homework:Read p. 76-81 of the text and write your answers to questions #4-6 on p. 82.
