BrainPop

Go to BrainPop - 7th Grade Math

Price:   Free/Premium Accounts available

Class Size: No Limit

BrainPOP was founded in 1999 by Dr. Avraham Kadar as a creative way to explain difficult concepts to his young patients. Today, Brainpop is a trusted learning resource supporting core and supplemental subjects, reaching millions of learners worldwide.

How students play!

The way it works is easy! I first pick a math game and generate a code. You use this code to join the game on on your devices. After the game starts, you will solve math problems to win.

No login required

You simply put in a code generated by me. Check with me first if you want to create an account (pssst: you must be 13).

How to use?

Click here for a short YouTube video on students playing fun races, hacking accounts, and defending their castle!

For Teachers (boring stuff but needs to be said!):

Getting Started with Brainpop - Teacher Edition:

  • Watch a short video for Tips & Tips on teaching with Brainpop.

Mathematical Technology

  • Brainpop is a Mathematical Action and reorganizer Technology tool reinforcing global mathematical content from our classroom. As an example, Brainpop has versions of algebra tiles that can constrain the movement of the screen tiles to ways that can be interpreted in terms of an area model, while actual tiles can be stacked, overlapped, or misaligned. Students have to drag tiles on their screen to add up to the correct area that they are being asked to find.

COPPA/FERPA compliant:

  • Read more about COPPA/FERPA.

ISTE Standards:

  • Students leverage Brainpop as an Empowered Learner to take an active role in choosing, achieving, and demonstrating competency in their learning goals.

  • Students are Digital Citizens by recognizing the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of everyone while learning and working in an interconnected digital world in ways that are safe, legal and ethical.

  • Students become Knowledge Constructors by building knowledge through actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and theories and pursuing answers and solutions.

  • Students use Brainpop as Innovative Designers with a process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions.

  • Students will become Global Collaborators by playing alongside others on a team in a competitive and exciting environment. Brainpop covers universal topics with access to French, Spanish and Mandarin.

Cool features:

  • Teachers have access to 1000's of fun games and videos to keep students engaged.

  • Efficacy research is right --> here.

  • Students can collaborate on a lesson or work as individuals.

  • There are "hands on" activities for students to manipulate mathematical objects.

  • Fun videos and exciting quizzes add variety and increase engagement. Students will want to play again and again. They also have a vocabulary unit ready to go!

  • Check out the Brainpop fb Community.

Limitations:

  • Free Brainpop accounts have limited access to some features.

  • Teachers may need to provide deeper, and more collaborative, learning opportunities to supplement some of the site's explanations.
