How to Become AIG: The Identification Process
The identification process is managed by the School-Based Committee for Gifted Education (SBCGE). This team of decision-makers ensures students demonstrating above-grade-level performance receive appropriate academic rigor.
The 5-Point Identification Journey
Nomination: Students in grades 4-8 can be nominated at any time by parents, teachers, or themselves. To initiate a nomination, please email Ms. Wise with your child’s first and last name and current grade level.
Data Search: Once nominated, the AIG Coordinator gathers formal and informal data—including grades and state testing—to support the identification process.
SBCGE Review: The committee reviews the gathered data to decide if the student should be formally referred for evaluation.
Evaluation: Referred students undergo testing or a portfolio review. CogAT and Iowa testing will occur in October and January. Evaluation may include CogAT aptitude tests, Iowa achievement tests (Reading/Math), or a portfolio of student work.
Final Committee Meeting: The SBCGE reviews final results to determine if a student meets the criteria for AIG identification or should be placed in the Talent Development program.
