Vocabulary refers to the words we must understand to communicate effectively. We can give a definition or use the clues in the story to help us determine the meaning. The more words you know the more you will understand the story.
Ways to Build Vocabulary
If your child finds a word in a book that they don't know, use the clues from the story to try to figure out what it means. Then, help your child look the word up in the dictionary, or online to find the meaning and see how close they were.
Word of the Day- Choose a new word each day and teach your child what it is. Use it in a sentence and try to use it throughout the day and encourage your child to use it too.
