What is the Title I Rainbow Reading Program?
Title I is a federal program that funds supplemental educational opportunities to help students meet state standards. The amount of Title I money each school receives is determined by the number of low-income students attending that school. Waynesville Elementary provides Title I reading services for students in Kindergarten through Third grade. Title I is not Special Education.
How did my child qualify for Title I Rainbow Reading?
Students may be identified for Rainbow Reading based on the following criteria:
* Acadience - This is a set of standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of pre-reading and early reading skills.
*Wonders Universal Screener
*Third Grade Ohio State Test- State achievement tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio's Learning Standards. These tests help guide and strengthen our instruction so students are successful in school and beyond. This test is given in the Fall and Spring of Third Grade.
How long will my child be in the Title I Rainbow Reading Program?
Our goal is to provide your child with the extra support needed to be successful in his/her classroom. Your child may be in Rainbow Reading for the entire year, or may only need to be in part of the year. Your child’s Rainbow Reading teacher will meet regularly with classroom teachers to discuss student progress and monitor data.
How often will my child be seen for Title I Rainbow Reading?
Students in Grades First through Third grade will attend Rainbow Reading Monday through Friday for 30 minutes. During this time, the classroom teacher will be doing reading groups, and/or having the other children do independent activities. Kindergarten students are supported within the classroom.
