Marching Band Drumline Information

The WMS Band’s participation in the parade is an important community service. We will be marching to help our community honor those who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Playing in the drum line is a big honor, and you play a crucial role for the entire band in the parade. It is time to prepare our drum line for the Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 25.

We have 9 drums (tenors and snares), 3 pairs of cymbals, buffalo drums, and bells. Parts will be chosen by audition. The auditions will be after school on Monday, April 27. (Please see me if this time will not work for you.)

Be sure that you have turned in your Memorial Day commitment form by the time of your audition, or you may not be assigned to the part you want. If you do not audition, you will be assigned a part.

The audition will consist of being able to play your part on “Liberty Bell March” and on the “Streetbeat.” Stickings count! You may audition for any part you wish, but you must work on the same part for both the march and the streetbeat.

Dynamics, accents, and sticking are VERY IMPORTANT and will be a big factor in the audition.

I am happy to help you learn the music, or bring it to your private lesson teacher for help.

We will have a FULL SECTION drumline rehearsal after school on

Wednesday, May 6, from 1:15 to 2:15. Please make every effort to attend.

There will also be a marching band rehearsal for EVERYONE marching the Memorial Day Parade after school on Wednesday, May 13, from 1:10 – 2:30.

You are going to LOVE the powerful sound of playing in a marching drum line!

PRACTICE HARD AND GOOD LUCK!
