WMS Jazz Band Earns GOLD Second Year in a Row at MAJE Festival!

The Wayland Middle School Jazz Band earned a gold medal at the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators' Junior District Jazz Festival on May 9th, 2019.

The two-day Central District festival, hosted by Trottier Middle School in Southboro, featured performances by 15 area middle school school jazz bands. Bands were rated against a performance rubric, not against each other. The WMS Jazz Band earned a gold medal, the highest rating, for their performance under the direction of Rebecca Pagano.

After the performance, the Director of Fine Arts at Boston Latin School, Mr. Paul Pitts, worked with WMS students in a clinic.

Excellent Musicianship Awards were awarded to Bella Thoen, Thomas Creavin, and Jake Crawford.

WMS Jazz Band Earns GOLD at MAJE Festival!

The Wayland Middle School Jazz Band earned a gold medal at the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators' Junior District Jazz Festival on May 10th, 2018.

The two-day Central District festival, hosted by Trottier Middle School in Southboro, featured performances by 15 area middle school school jazz bands. Festivals also took place in other districts across the state. Bands were rated against a performance rubric, not against each other. The WMS Jazz Band earned a gold medal, the highest rating, for their performance under the direction of Rebecca Pagano.

After the performance, jazz composer/arranger Terry White gave WMS students a clinic, and then the band capped off the experience by listening to other area middle school bands and cheering them on.

Excellent Musicianship Awards were awarded to Lucas Pralle, Isabelle Wang, and Joshua Zhang.
