“The Time Is Always Right” Mural Dedication Have you seen the new “Time is Always Right” mural overlooking the Boys and Girls’ Club basketball court led by our own Ms. Henry with a lot of support from students and staff from Watertown Middle and High Schools. It is a spectacular, strong, positive statement from our school community that illustrates the six principles Dr. Martin Luther King encouraged us to live by. The official unveiling and dedication of the mural will be on Thursday June 7th, 3:30, at the Boys and Girls Club basketball court. Dr. Bernard Lafayette, civil rights leader and close friend of Dr. King, will be the featured guest speaker. I hope all of you can attend!

Eighth Grade Class Party The eighth grade class party will be held this Friday June 8th, 6:00, at the Sons of Italy on Pleasant St. Although students tend to dress up for this event, the student council and I want to emphasize that it a party that celebrates three years of growing and learning together at Watertown Middle School. The eighth grade class party is not a prom. I am looking forward to the celebration and it would be great to see as many eighth graders at the party as possible. Tickets are $15 and went on sale last week.

Choosing to Participate Assembly In eighth grade, students complete a “Choosing to Participate” capstone project about a social justice issue that impacts our local, national, or global community. Come and see some top group presentations of the Choosing to Participate project at an assembly on Tuesday June 12th, 8:00, in the auditorium. Everyone is invited!

Eighth Grade Graduation Eighth graders have a very busy, special day on Friday June 22nd They will come to school, receive their report cards in homeroom, and attend the eighth grade awards assembly at 8:00 a.m. in the auditorium. The awards assembly will be immediately followed by a PTO-sponsored reception for eighth grade students and families at about 9:30. Graduation is at 10:00 in the auditorium and will go to about 11:00. There are enough seats in the auditorium to seat 2.5 family members for every graduate. We have never set seating limitations, but please be considerate of other families when you decide how many will attend graduation.

I am looking forward to eighth grade graduation day. This is an outstanding class who supported one another and shared many memories during their three years at Watertown Middle School. Our eighth graders have tremendous potential, both individually and collectively, as they move to high school and beyond.

Awards Assemblies Please mark your calendars for our awards assemblies, and be careful: the sixth and seventh grade awards assemblies are out of order due to the sith grade Canobie Lake field trip. The seventh grade awards assembly is Wednesday June 20th at 8:00 in the auditorium. The sixth grade awards assembly is Thursday June 21st at 8:00 in the auditorium. The eighth grade awards assembly precedes graduation on Friday June 22nd at 8:00 in the auditorium.

Last Day of School June 22nd is the last day of school and an early release day for students. Sixth and seventh grade students are dismissed at 11:45 with their report cards. Eighth grade students can go home right after graduation.
