Scholastic Book Fair

It’s that magical time of year again! The Scholastic Book Fair will be held at the WMS Library from Tuesday December 12th to Friday December 15th. Students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during their Humanities classes; it will also be open to all families during conferences and the winter concert!

Still can’t make it? You can also purchase from the fair online! Don’t forget that a portion of all sales goes back to the WMS Library so that we may purchase new books for our school.

We are also looking for parent volunteers to help students during the Book Fair.

To purchase online, sign up as a volunteer, or get more info, go to scholastic.com/bf/watertownmiddleschool3.

SBIRT Program

In March of 2016, Governor Baker signed landmark legislation into law to address the deadly opioid epidemic plaguing Massachusetts. The bill was titled An Act Relative to Substance Use, Treatment, Education and Prevention (The STEP Bill), and contained multiple provisions to address the crisis of addiction in our state, including a recommendation for a verbal screening for substance use disorders in secondary school students.

A program team of WPS administrators, teachers, nurses, mental health personnel and student support staff began meeting to plan our community’s plan to implement this program, known as SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention & Referral to Treatment). Staff who will be part of the SBIRT Screening Team and appropriate administrators participated in trainings sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health this year, and in follow-up meetings to prepare and learn about the SBIRT protocols for WPS. We are confident that we have developed a plan that will maximize the effectiveness of this valuable substance use prevention and intervention program. Click here for more information.
