Create Site

Creating a Site is very straightforward.

Note that the instructions are written and illustrated with examples from the staff Google domain.  The principles are the same on the student Google domain although there may be some minor differences in wording.

1. Log-in to Google Apps.
1. Staff - use http://weave.waikato.ac.nz and this will display your Google Docs page. Across the top of the page is a link to Sites and a click on that will take your 'My Sites' page.
   1. Students - Log into your student Gmail account and you will get similar links at the top of the page.

The Quick Notes page runs through the process of creating a Site in minimal detail but you may find it handy as a crib sheet.

1. Click the 'Create new site' button

1. Now fill in the Site Name. The name is fixed once you create it but everything else can be changed later if needed. We recommend that you put some details in the Site Categories option. This can help users to find Sites at later dates. You can enter anything you like as categories (also known as tags) but try to make them meaningful!
2. If your site is for a specific paper, you may want to include the course code (or its stem) as a tag.
3. In the 'Collaborate with' option, you may want to choose 'Only people I specify can view this site' at the moment. This allows you to prepare a Site before making it visible once there is some content or structure there. See Site Permissions for more detail on this.
4. Choose a theme to set the look of the site. This can always be changed once you have created the site.
5. Click the 'Create Site' button at the bottom of the page. Your Site will be created and you will be taken to the Home page of the new Site. That's it!
