Mrs. Shives, Teacher Librarian
Mrs. Shives: B.A., Elementary Education, University of Iowa, 2001; M.A., School Library Media Studies, University of Northern Iowa, 2009; 8th year of teaching at West Delaware; 11 total years of teaching; enjoys nonfiction including Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat who Touched the World, Weird but True, True or False, Players in Pigtails, So You Want to be President, Christian the Lion, Winter's Tail, Knut, and The Diary of Anne Frank. She also loves the 1995 Newberry Winner Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech including its life lesson, "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins." Mrs. Shives also enjoys photography, music, walking, and spending time with family (including her husband and son).
Mrs. Werner, Lambert Library Associate
Mrs. Werner started as a music major at Iowa Wesleyan College and found her way to another love in the Lambert Library: reading many children's books both picture and chapter as well as nonfiction (including real animal stories!). Mrs. Werner is a licensed para-educator and has been helping the school community find and utilize free choice and special-event reading materials (buddy reading, special read aloud, etc.) as well as curricular resources for 6 years now. Her literary favorites include characters - Splat the cat, Marley the dog, and Pip the penguin, authors - Peg Kehret and Mary Downing Hahn, adult book and author - Gone with the Wind and James Patterson. Mrs. Werner enjoys reading the Iowa Children's Choice Award and Iowa Goldfinch Award books each year; her expressive voice can be heard reading aloud to JK, kindergarten, and 1st grade students. She teaches piano lessons and enjoys attending her two teenagers' extracurricular activities and spending time outdoors as well as with her family including a dog and cat.
