What are GVC's? GVC stands for Guaranteed Viable Curriculum, or in other words, the concepts and ideas that you should have mastered by the end of the course. GVC's do not cover every last detail of the course, but are main concepts that we will focus on in the class and ensure that you learn.

Along with the GVC's is what is called a Common Formative Assessment (CFA). This assessment (quiz or test) is one way that I as a teacher will be able to determine if you have mastered the concept or not. You might think of it as a gauge that tells me how much you understand the things that we are learning. Each GVC has a CFA to go along with it.

For College Prep Math, the GVC's are:

Solving Linear or Quadratic Equations

    • Students will be able to solve a given linear equations using inverse operations.
    • Students will be able to solve quadratic equations by factoring or by using the quadratic formula.
      • CFA: Solving Quadratic Equations Algebraically QUIZ

Solving a System of Linear Equations

    • Students will be able to solve a system of Linear Equations with two or three variables by substitution or elimination.
      • CFA: Solving a System of Equations in Two Variables QUIZ

Polynomial Functions

    • Given a polynomial function, students will be able to find the zeros of the function and graph the function.
      • CFA: Locating Zeros of Polynomial Function QUIZ

Solve Exponential and Logarithmic Equations

    • Students will be able to solve a given exponential or logarithmic equation using the properties of exponents and logarithms.
      • CFA: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Topic TEST

Conic Sections

    • Students will be able to write equations of conic sections in standard form, including parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas
      • CFA: Conics Topic TEST
