Erin Zimmerman

Erin joins the UNLV Writing Center after a 4-year stint working at the American University of Beirut as an Assistant Professor in the English Department and Director of the Writing Center and Writing in the Disciplines Program. Prior to those Mediterranean Sea views, she was in the Midwest cornfields getting her PhD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication at Iowa State University.

Originally, she hails from North Carolina, as evident from her slight southern twang, where she got her MA in English at Appalachian State University and BA in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Tim Buchanan

Tim Buchanan is a fiction writer from Kalamazoo, MI. He has been working in university writing centers since 2009. In 2018 he graduated from UNLV with an MFA in Creative Writing. Since then he has been teaching and working as a writing consultant at UNLV, and now assistant director of the UNLV Writing Center.

Emily

When she is not catching up on the latest Korean dramas, Emily spends her time working on adaptive curriculums for international students to improve their English speaking and writing skills. She received her BA and MA in English from UNLV and after finishing her master’s program in 2019, Emily has continued to be a part of the UNLV community by working at the Writing Center, teaching English composition classes, and teaching for the Engineering departments International program.

Layla

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Layla graduated from UNLV with a BA in English and a minor in Creative Writing. She used to live in Yamanashi, Japan-- home of the beautiful Mt. Fuji-- where she helped teach English to high schoolers.


With more than five years of writing center experience and two years of teaching English abroad, Layla has enjoyed working one-on-one with a wide range of writers. She is enthusiastic about helping students grow and develop their own writing skills, styles, and strategies. She also enjoys playing video games, crafting things, and making lame jokes.

Kevin

Kevin is a writer who firmly believes in the importance of building proper communication skills. He views his work at the Writing Center as an opportunity to aid students in not only their academic careers, but in every aspect of their lives. Kevin has experience as a blog writer, editor, professor, tutor, and technical writer, and he has had several works published. He graduated with his BA in Professional Writing from UNLV and is now pursuing his MA in Literary Studies. When he’s not working, he can usually be found reading, indulging in video games, or playing racquetball at the gym.

Carlos

Carlos is a PhD candidate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In addition to teaching and studying at UNLV, he has taught at Cerro Coso Community College in California and at California State University, Bakersfield, where he received both his B.A. and his M.A. His main area of interest is in Global Anglophone Studies with a focus on Ecocriticism, though he also ventures into other modes of thinking and inquiry. When he is not studying Literature and teaching writing, you can likely find him writing sci-fi or climbing rocks.
