Experience: Clinical Practice
· Following Graduation from Salahaddin university Hospital in Iraq in 1989, did my internship in Surgery and Medicine in Kirkuk
Before working in Obs/ Gyn, I worked as a Primary General Practioner in Iraq. It was a clinical and administrative Job equivalent to joint GP and Community Medicine in Ireland. I was in charge of training the health teams and attended four advanced courses in training the trainees. I was awarded many Thank you letters for achieving my Job in the best interests of the patient.
When I worked in Obs/Gyn I worked in a different hospital including Saddam Teaching Hospital (Azade, and Rizgare) new names for same Hospitals which conduct about 15000 deliveries per year. It was a demanding job in view of the heavy work load, dealing with multinational & multilingual people. As a result I have got the high threshold of work and developed good communication skills with patients and colleagues. This helped me become fluent in English, Arabic, Turkish and Kurdish.
In Ireland,
· I completed the Diploma in gynaecology and obstetrics in 2001.
· My first post in Ireland was in June 2002 at the Rotunda Hospital
It was a great experience to see how a tertiary hospital in Ireland functioned. Here I became familiar with the Irish medical system, as well as the most modern technologies available in the field.
· I joined Portiuncula Hospital in January 2003, worked as SHO, I participated in labour ward management, performed numerous instrumental deliveries and Caesarean section.
Since January 2004, I had worked at the same hospital as a Registrar. Fully participated in labour ward management. I have gained confidence in instrumental deliveries, and actively participate in antenatal and gynaecology clinics
· In July 2006, I was working in Mullingar Regional Hospital as a Sinore Registrar in a relatively busy unit participating in one out of four Rota, actively been managing labour ward. Exposed to a large number of antenatal cases, busy gynae OPD, attached to one consultant theatre list, so I have exposed to good gynae loads in the term of laparoscopic surgery, Hysteroscopy procedures like Endometrial ablation (Nova sure), vaginal Hysterectomy, Abdominal Hysterectomy and all above minor operations.
· In Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital, I have been worked as Registrar besides being a Unversity College Dublin special lecturer for 2years I have attended the very useful labor ward and Pediatric meeting sessions twice weekly. I was involved in on call duties and have been exposed to extremely busy on calls. I have done a large number of Instrumental deliveries, I have been doing numerous caesarean sections at different stage of labour more than 50 c/s. Also some Laparoscopy, Hystoscopy, and minor operations through one theatre session weekly. Besides very busy Dating scan Four times a week that has given me a great experience in transvaginal scan in all early pregnancy problems. I was also running a very busy Semi private Clinic.
· In theatre I perform all the public operations in the team; this includes major and minor Gynae operations including laparoscopies, hysteroscopy’s and abdominal & vaginal hysterectomies. I am performing the advanced 3rd & 4rth level laparoscopic surgery. I am competent in conducting laparoscopic management of ectopic pregnancy.
· I have special interest in Urogynaecology, during the six months of my training, I appreciated the experience of a large number of all varieties of urinary incontinence, and different spectrum of operative procedures, pelvic floor problems, and their management. and a proposed Audit for symptoms and outcome for both urinary incontinence and uterine prolapse, with led consultant of this special area I am running urogynae clinic and theatre .
· In addition I run busy weekly Diabetic clinic under Dr Milner care beside Endocrinologist.
· So far in my training I have performed several hundred diagnostic Laparoscopies, 20-30 operative laparoscopies, more than 30 laparoscopic ectopic managements. I have also had the opportunity to perform more than 1500 caesarean sections, more than 30 total abdominal hysterectomy and 20 vaginal hysterectomies, I carried out 5 cases of TVT, TVTO procedures for stress incontinence. And I have also performed 15 roller ball endometrial ablation, in addition of more than 1000 minor procedures.
