Clinical Practice
· Following Graduation from Salahaddin university Hospital in Iraq in 1989, did my internship in Surgery and Medicine in Kirkuk
Before working in Obs/ Gyn, I worked as a Primary General Practioner in Iraq. It was a clinical and administrative Job equivalent to joint GP and Community Medicine in Ireland. I was in charge of training the health teams and attended four advanced courses in training the trainees. I was awarded many Thank you letters for achieving my Job in the best interests of the patient.
When I worked in Obs/Gyn I worked in a different hospital including Saddam Teaching Hospital (Azade, and Rizgare) new names for same Hospitals which conduct about 15000 deliveries per year. It was a demanding job in view of the heavy work load, dealing with multinational & multilingual people. As a result I have got the high threshold of work and developed good communication skills with patients and colleagues. This helped me become fluent in English, Arabic, Turkish and Kurdish.
In Ireland,
· I completed the Diploma in gynaecology and obstetrics in 2001.
· My first post in Ireland was in June 2002 at the Rotunda Hospital
It was a great experience to see how a tertiary hospital in Ireland functioned. Here I became familiar with the Irish medical system, as well as the most modern technologies available in the field.
· I joined Portiuncula Hospital in January 2003, worked as SHO, I participated in labour ward management, performed numerous instrumental deliveries and Caesarean section.
Since January 2004, I had worked at the same hospital as a Registrar. Fully participated in labour ward management. I have gained confidence in instrumental deliveries, and actively participate in antenatal and gynaecology clinics
· In July 2006, I was working in Mullingar Regional Hospital as a Sinore Registrar in a relatively busy unit participating in one out of four Rota, actively been managing labour ward. Exposed to a large number of antenatal cases, busy gynae OPD, attached to one consultant theatre list, so I have exposed to good gynae loads in the term of laparoscopic surgery, Hysteroscopy procedures like Endometrial ablation (Nova sure), vaginal Hysterectomy, Abdominal Hysterectomy and all above minor operations.
· In Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital, I have been worked as Registrar besides being a Unversity College Dublin special lecturer for 2years I have attended the very useful labor ward and Pediatric meeting sessions twice weekly. I was involved in on call duties and have been exposed to extremely busy on calls. I have done a large number of Instrumental deliveries, I have been doing numerous caesarean sections at different stage of labour more than 50 c/s. Also some Laparoscopy, Hystoscopy, and minor operations through one theatre session weekly. Besides very busy Dating scan Four times a week that has given me a great experience in transvaginal scan in all early pregnancy problems. I was also running a very busy Semi private Clinic.
· In theatre I perform all the public operations in the team; this includes major and minor Gynae operations including laparoscopies, hysteroscopy’s and abdominal & vaginal hysterectomies. I am performing the advanced 3rd & 4rth level laparoscopic surgery. I am competent in conducting laparoscopic management of ectopic pregnancy.
· I have special interest in Urogynaecology, during the six months of my training, I appreciated the experience of a large number of all varieties of urinary incontinence, and different spectrum of operative procedures, pelvic floor problems, and their management. and a proposed Audit for symptoms and outcome for both urinary incontinence and uterine prolapse, with led consultant of this special area I am running urogynae clinic and theatre .
· In addition I run busy weekly Diabetic clinic under Dr Milner care beside Endocrinologist.
· So far in my training I have performed several hundred diagnostic Laparoscopies, 20-30 operative laparoscopies, more than 30 laparoscopic ectopic managements. I have also had the opportunity to perform more than 1500 caesarean sections, more than 30 total abdominal hysterectomy and 20 vaginal hysterectomies, I carried out 5 cases of TVT, TVTO procedures for stress incontinence. And I have also performed 15 roller ball endometrial ablation, in addition of more than 1000 minor procedures.
· In Lady of Lourdes Hospital I worked as consultant obstetrician/gynaecologysit , I have been exposed to frequent / regular labour ward session, 1:7 on call roster, Daily Obs/Gynae outpatient clinics. I carry out all labour ward activities and perform all operative deliveries especially forceps which made me more confident in managing labour ward. I am well able to Priotize emergency cases confidently. I have been exposed to a busy gynaecological clinic and a very busy antenatal clinic. I did 3 months of High risk clinic.
Teaching Experience
· I have two years experience as a special Lecturer of University College Dublin (UCD) In Coombe and Infants University Hospital, I have been tutoring student from UCD and I have been directly involved in regular teaching sessions in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fifth year and Final Medical Student . I gave both Lecture and bedside tutorial; I got excellent feedback from UCD students. I have been involved in OSCE exams. I enjoyed being a special lecturer of UCD and was very good teaching experience for me and I look forward to the opportunity to continue this.
I become an official PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) trainer. For junior medical staff and midwifery staff in Drogheda Hospital
· During my 4 years of registrar in the field, I have always ensured continuous care, I like teaching clinical practice to my junior registrar and SHO’s, I under took teaching session and clinical practice, especially in labour ward management. Teaching medical student is my special interest.
Management Experience
· As senior Registrar I was involved in the organization of duty rosters of the Senior House Officers and Registrars. I have been responsible for filling shortage in the clinic, and covering all difficult and busy area. And daily duties to cover OLOL and outreaching clinic in Navan and Dandlk.
· I was a member of Delivery Suite Advisory Committee Meeting which meets monthly, regularly Arrange and produce all the advices, implementing new changes that suits all sites of committee, pediatric , and anesthesia for the best interest of the paients.
· Monthly presenting the Dash Board of Labour ward activity, including and discussion of all near misses, all admission to room 6, obstetric admission to ICU, and HDU all PPH cases, all Shoulder Dystocia, all 3rd and 4thdegree and still births
· All local Guideline between OLOL and Cavan Hospital presented in open way to all medical, midwifery staff.
· Completed stillbirths Annual Reports for 2009 And Stillbirths annual Report 2010.
· I presented perinatal morbidity and mortality every month for a year 2010-2011. In this meeting I presented mothers whom babies intubated or had severe HIE, admitted to special care baby unit, where presenting a relevant topic and a condition is discussed.
· I obtained Local Certificate in early pregnancy ultra sound, from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Registered with RCPI for obtaining a Log book in early and advanced ultrasound

My research interest includes the following fields;
This research examined maternal body composition in first Trimister of Pregnancy . The aims of the work are as follows
To develop normograms for body composition using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in women booking for antenatal care.
To determine if assessment of maternal body fat using bioelectrical impedance is a better predictor of short-term and long-term pregnancy outcomes than conventional body mass index (BMI).
To determine if biomarkers (including leptin) are predictive of maternal body fat and body mass index, fetal size and subcutaneous fat assessed by ultrasound antenatally, and birth weight.
