Carlson Consulting Club (CCC) is a student organization supporting Full and Part-Time MBA students who are interested in pursuing careers in the consulting industry.
Our mission is to enhance student awareness and understanding of the consulting industry and its vast career opportunities. Through specialized educational events and strategic networking initiatives, we aim to equip students with the essential consulting skills and methodologies needed to excel in both consulting interviews and internships. We also strive to foster strong connections with consulting firms in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.
CCC is dedicated to three main areas to effectively execute its mission:
We offer workshops and practice sessions throughout the school year to help students excel in their job search. Case interviews are a standard practice in consulting recruitment and are increasingly common across other industries. These interviews often include scenarios like market sizing (e.g., estimating how many golf balls fit in a 747), market entry (e.g., assessing the feasibility of a company entering a new geographic market), pricing decisions (e.g., determining the optimal price for a new product), and profitability analysis (e.g., identifying the root cause of declining profits for a business).
Case interviews provide a platform to showcase your ability to structure your thinking, tackle complex or ambiguous problems, and arrive at sound conclusions with limited information.
For more details, check out our resources on case interviews.
No matter how skilled you are at case interviews, without effective networking, you may never even get the chance to showcase your abilities to your target companies. Success in consulting is about building strong connections as much as it is about demonstrating analytical prowess. Our club leverages the Carlson School of Management’s extensive alumni network to host social events aimed at building meaningful relationships. These networking opportunities are designed to connect students with professionals in the consulting industry, enhancing both their knowledge and their career prospects.
Navigating the recruitment process can be challenging, especially in the competitive consulting industry. Our club offers targeted guidance to help students understand the recruitment timeline, refine their resumes and develop effective cover letters. We also provide insights into different consulting firms’ hiring practices, preparing students to present themselves as strong candidates.
