Welcome!
Welcome to the Zhao Research Group in the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan! Our group focuses on discovering, understanding, and eventually controlling novel electronic and magnetic phases hosted in a broad class of quantum materials, both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) ones. We utilize and develop femtosecond laser based techniques, including linear and nonlinear, static and ultrafast, and elastic and inelatistic optical spectroscopy and microscopy, to investigate the fascinating properties of these novel electronic and magnetic phases with symmetry, time, spectral and spatial resolutions.
We invite you to explore our website for more details by following the menu on the top.
Positions Openning
We are looking for one postdoctoral scholar to join us, with experience with ultrafast optics, or photonics, or magneto-optics. If you are interested, please email Liuyan at lyzhao@umich.edu.
In addition, we also look for a master or a phd student with interest at the intersection of condensed matter physics and machine learning, joint with Gongjun Xu (website) in statistics.
