RESEARCH INTERESTS

Jonathan received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2008. During his time at UMBC, he received a number of scholarship awards, including the Presidential Scholars award for undergraduate research in Biochemistry, using molecular biology and crystallography to investigate the three dimensional structure of proteins, as well as an entrepreneurial scholarship to work for Aurora Analytics Llc., performing organic synthesis of complex carbohydrates. Following graduation, he continued working for Aurora while preparing for graduate school.

Jonathan is currently a PhD candidate in Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Michigan. As a member of the Zellers’ research team, his projects are directed towards modifying and applying existing micro gas chromatography technology to the determination of VOCs for biological monitoring of exposure and disease, as well as monitoring of workplace exposures. Prior to attaining candidacy, Jonathan participated in the development and subsequent field testing of the SPIRON µGC prototype, where trichloroethylene vapors were assessed in homes contaminated by vapor intrusion outside Salt Lake City, Utah.
