The Kaplan Prize will be awarded to a junior investigator. Although there is no strict limits, typically, we anticipate that the successful applicant will be someone who started their postdoctoral research less than six years before the May 2025 Cold Spring Harbor Retroviruses meeting, and thus is either a senior postdoc or a newly (<1 year) independent investigator. Self-nominations are encouraged, but we do request that each research group nominate no more than one current member. Applications should consist of an abstract that follows the format specified by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (see below), the candidate’s curriculum vitae, copies of up to three of the candidate’s most significant publications, and a three page summary of his or her thesis research, current postdoctoral studies and future research directions. These materials should be submitted as a single PDF. In addition, the candidate is responsible for arranging electronic submission of three confidential letters of reference, separate from the application PDF. Both the application pdf and the separate letters of reference should be emailed to Akira Ono (akiraono@umich.edu ), and will be due March 7, 2025. Although applicants need not register/apply to the meeting to be considered for the Prize, the winner will have to attend the CSHL Retroviruses Meeting (May 19 -24, 2025) in person to receive the Prize and to give an oral presentation.
