Call for applications
The 2025 Andy Kaplan Prize:
We are pleased to solicit applications for the Eighteenth Annual Andy Kaplan Prize. This award is aimed at honoring the research achievements of a junior investigator in the late stages of his or her postdoctoral work or at the earliest stages of an independent career.
The inaugural Andy Kaplan Prize was awarded at the 2007 Cold Spring Harbor Retroviruses meeting, and since then has been awarded annually to an accomplished junior career-stage retrovirologist. Due to the generous contributions of many in our field, we anticipate that the award will continue in perpetuity as an integral part of the Cold Spring Harbor Retroviruses legacy and a valuable laurel for a new investigator in our field.
Although there are no formal time or age requirements of applicants, we anticipate that the successful applicant will be someone who is either a senior postdoctoral researcher embarking on an independent PI career path or a newly (< 1 year) independent investigator. The prize recipient will receive a modest cash prize and will present a short address on his or her research at CSH Retroviruses in May of 2025. To encourage the winner's ongoing participation in the CSH Retroviruses meeting, the Andy Kaplan Prize also includes a waver that will cover registration+housing costs of attending the meeting in a future year of the winner's choice, 1 to 3 years after they win the Prize.
An application for the Eighteenth Annual Andrew Kaplan Prize-- due date is March 7, 2025-- will consist of materials similar to those required to apply for a faculty position. Specific application instructions are available at the following website:

We encourage you to apply for this award yourself, or to bring this announcement to the attention of eligible applicants. Thank you for helping us identify outstanding candidates for this award, which should serve equally to help advance a new colleague’s career and to honor the memory of Andrew Kaplan.
Sincerely,
