Our mission is to create a growing and engaged tabletop gaming community here on campus. Whether your interest is in board games, card games, or roleplaying games, we wish to invite all kinds of people to gather and share in their shared hobbies, and maybe pick up a new one on the way!
We have divided the mission of the club into the three components listed below:
Network
We seek to connect all kinds of people interested in tabletop roleplaying games, no matter your background or experience with these kinds of things.
There many other people here on the University of Michigan campus with similar and shared interests, and we hope we can help you find them!
Here are some of the avenues you can use to start getting connected with the Michigan Tabletop Gaming Community:
Engage
We also seek to engage and build a sense of community here on campus through various social activities. Be sure to check them out!
Social Meetings
We hold social meetings at the times and locations listed below on a weekly basis. Drop by, meet people, and play games! Feel free to bring your own games, but don't fret if you don't have any. The officers will always be providing their own games. Come by any of these times, and have fun with the games you love or learn to try out new ones!
Times and Locations:
Tuesday 7:00-9:00 PM, Design Lab 1 (Duderstadt Center First Floor)
Friday 7:00-9:00 PM, Mason Hall (rooms may vary with week to week, check our emails or our Facebook group to stay on top of things!)
Special Events
We will also be holding some special events throughout the semester that will feature activities beyond the scope of normal social meetings.
Be on the look for:
Interactive Character Building/Acting/Improvisation Workshops
Special One-Shot Roleplaying Game Sessions
Social Nights (Come out and share your craziest and silliest stories from the table, eat some food, and have a great time!)
Teach
If you're new to this whole gaming thing, or you feel woefully inexperienced compared to everyone else, don't worry! We are aiming to accept and take on new players of all kinds and to teach them how to get into any kind of tabletop gaming.
The hobby may seem a bit intimidating at first, but it's nowhere near as difficult to get into or as cryptic as it might seem from a distance!
We have two primary methods of teaching people:
Workshops
The Panels are meetings in which Tabletop Gaming Club staff will hold an interactive workshop on a specific topic to help people get into it. These can be anything from character building, to game mastering, to worldbuilding. Keep an eye on our emails and Facebook announcements on our group to keep in touch about upcoming workshops!
Mentorship & Registry Program
Our Mentorship and Registry Program is our way of linking up new potential players with experienced ones that are willing to show them the ropes and basics about all kinds of games. If you are brand new and interesting in learning how to pick up on a certain type of game, just read through a list of all our registered mentors and feel to ask them any questions you might have!
On the other hand, if you feel you are an expert or at least experience enough with some game or game system that you want to share your knowledge and expertise about it, let us know and we'll put you down on our official mentors list!
