Potential trainees

The current funding focus of the MIDIS program is on providing research training to Master's Program students in Microbiology and Immunology. You may be eligible to become a trainee of our program if you are a citizen or resident of a disease endemic nation, possess the academic training and skills required for admission to graduate studies in the Master's Degree program at the University of Michigan, and share our commitment to the ideals of the Michigan Infectious Disease International Scholars program.

The MIDIS program also is supportive of international applicants to the M&I PhD program. Applicants who can be interviewed (that is, who reside in the United States or Canada) will be given full consideration. PhD applicants should follow the Program in Biomedical Sciences application process. Potential applicants should first complete the on-line pre-application for international applicants, listing Microbiology and Immunology as their first choice program. You may also choose to send a brief (1-2 page) statement describing your interest in and qualifications for the MIDIS program directly to us at midis@umich.edu. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the International Admissions subcommittee of the Departmental Graduate Studies committee, currently chaired by Dr. Mary O'Riordan and Dr. Alice Telesnitsky. Please note that the number of applicants that we admit each year will be tied in part to our fundraising success and thus cannot be stated with certainty at this time.

Current trainees' written requests for travel or other scholarship enrichment cost reimbursement from MIDIS funds will be evaluated by the Steering Committee on an ad hoc basis. For further information, please contact Dr. Alice Telesnitsky ateles@umich.edu.
