Wait, why are there so many different groups and links, & which ones are for me?

The University of Michigan is comprised of many colleges, groups, and units. Each of the groups below offers resources and programming related to Career & Professional Development, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Health and Wellness, Student Groups, and Ann Arbor Living listed on their website.

Below is a brief description if each unit or group followed by links that we hope you find helpful. Of course, webpages and links do change. So if you’re having trouble finding what you’re looking for, please contact each office directly.

Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Under the leadership of Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion & Chief Diversity Officer Robert Sellers, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) leads and supports university-wide initiatives focused on the recruitment of a diverse faculty, staff and student body, while fostering an inclusive and equitable university community. https://diversity.umich.edu/resources/office-of-diversity-equity-inclusion/

The Spectrum Center:The Spectrum Center at University of Michigan is a collaborative space in which all members of the University and local community are welcome. Through collaboration and partnership efforts, the Center supports students to thrive in a diverse society and globally. Sexual Assault Prevention and AwarenessCenter : The Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) provides free and confidential crisis intervention, advocacy, and support for survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and sexual harassment who are University of Michigan students, faculty and staff. All services are free and confidential to the University of Michigan community and are provided by professional SAPAC staff members and include Crisis Intervention, Advocacy, and Support Groups. https://sapac.umich.edu/

Center for the Education of Women: The Center for the Education of Women provides academic, financial, and professional support through career and education counseling, funding, workshops, events, and a diverse, welcoming community to empower women to reach their full potential. http://www.cew.umich.edu/

The Rackham Graduate School partners at multiple levels with every school and college on campus to ensure the quality of graduate education, encourage innovation, and build a vibrant and diverse student community. OGPS: The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies provides resources and support for current graduate students, postdocs, and postbacs in the biomedical sciences. Thus, OGPS is specific to those training in biomedical sciences at UM, whereas Rackham encompasses all graduate education at the University of Michigan. https://ogps.med.umich.edu/

OHEI:The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion develops mechanisms for inclusion, diversity and cultural sensitivity among faculty, students and staff at Michigan Medicine (UM Medical School and Hospital). OHEI also advances clinical care for under-served patient populations through research and education. Under the leadership of David J. Brown, MD, Associate Vice President and Associate Dean for Health Equity and Inclusion and Phyllis M. The CEW+ Student Advisory Board (SAB) works to inform and advise CEW+ leadership on the challenges faced by students, with a focus on the unique needs of underserved, and underrepresented students. The SAB assists in developing relevant and engaging programs, workshops, and initiatives that are responsive to the emerging needs of underserved students. By highlighting student voices and gaining insight into the needs of this population, CEW+ is able to present concerns and feedback to University leadership. [C2]

MORE (Mentoring Others Results in Excellence) is Rackham’s faculty committee on mentoring, which engages with faculty and graduate students to foster conversations about mentoring. Specifically, the committee provides faculty with effective tools and practices for mentoring graduate students in an effort to improve retention, productivity and overall student success. MORE committee members are twelve faculty with appointments in six different Schools and Colleges of the University of Michigan and it is sponsored by Rackham Graduate School, and The Office of the Provost.
